HOUSTON TEXAS – The Houston Marriot Marquis Hotel opened in mid-December and within a week the 375 workers there became part of Local 23.

WASHINGTON DC – More than 150 at OTG food service at Reagan National Airport have won the union. The first bargaining sessions were held on Jan 24th and 25th. Here’s what a few of the committee had to say:

GEORGIA – 700 food service workers at Fort Benning and Camp Merrill in Georgia became part of Local 23 in January.
MONTANA – UNITE HERE members across Montana have also now become part of Local 23

JOB SECURITY – At Houston IAH Airport, DNC has left and OTG is coming in. We have an agreement for worker retention with OTG which gives priority for hiring to IAH employees represented by UNITE HERE Local 23.
The Atlanta Westin Peachtree Plaza also continues to take action for real job security. Marriot now owns the Westin and could sell it at any time. We want to make sure that, if the hotel is sold, the workers keep their jobs. We also want to make sure that our jobs are not subcontracted.
NEW CONTRACTS – At Areas at Atlanta ATL Airport we won a new contract. In DC Aramark American University, TCMA Parking, Kennedy Center Parking, Centerplate Washington Convention Center, Metz at Trinity University, Starr Catering National Gallery of Art, Aramark Catholic University, Aramark FDIC, Aramark Phillip Morris, GSI at various locations and Compass Corporate Executive Board have all won new contracts. With their new contracts they will move forward with raises, better benefits, and new rights at work.
MARCHING FOR WOMENS RIGHTS – Local 23 and 3.3 million people participated in the January 21st Women’s Marches. The marches were in more than 500 US cities. It was the largest day of demonstration in recent US history!

JOB SECURITY – En el Aeropuerto IAH de Houston DNC se fue y OTG está llegando. Tenemos un acuerdo de guardar los trabajadores con OTG que da prioridad a contratar empleados de IAH que fueron parte de UNITE HERE Local 23.
El Westin Peachtree de Atlanta sigue tomando acción para seguridad real de trabajo. Marriot ahora es dueño del Westin y podría venderlo cuando sea. Queremos asegurar que, si se vende el hotel, los trabajadores guarden sus trabajos. También queremos asegurar que no subcontraten nuestros trabajos. Hace anos, en Boston, 100 recamareras del Hyatt llegaron al trabajo y les dieron lay off y les pidieron entrenar a los nuevos. No dejaremos que pasa esto. Hicimos grande el hotel y merecemos respeto y seguridad de trabajo.
NUEVOS CONTRATOS – Ganamos nuevo contrato en Areas del aeropuerto ATL. En DC Aramark en la Universidad de American, Parqueo de TCMA, El Parqueo del Centro eknnedy, Centerplate en el Centro de Convenciones de Washington, Metz en la Universidad de Trinity, Starr Catering en la Galería nacional de arte, Aramark en la Universidad católica, el FDIC, y Phillip Morris, GSI en varios lugares, y Compass en la Junta ejecutiva corporativa ganaron contratos nuevos. Con los nuevos contratos van a avanzar con aumentos, beneficios mejores, y nuevos derechos en el trabajo.
MARCHANDO PARA LOS DERECHOS DE LAS MUJERES – Local 23 y 3.3 millones de gente participaron en las Marchas de mujeres el 21 de enero. Se hicieron marchas en más de 500 ciudades en los estados unidos. ¡Fue el día más grande de acción en la historia reciente de los estados unidos!
